For those of you who didn't know I haven't completly disappeared! I am still in Australia and have been working as an au pair for the past 3 months. I have had the most fantastic time mainly looking after a gorgeous 18 month year old boy, Coen, and helping out with his newborn baby brother, Reece. It has been a great insight for me and I loved every minute of it from changing nappies, swimming lessons, playgroups and reading bedtime stories. Shura and Scott (mum & dad) really made me feel like part of the family, including me in family days out and trips to their lake house at Sandbar. It was a wonderul opportunity for me to have a break from backpacking for a while as I have had my own room with double bed and the most amazing home cooked food, of course I have gained about 5kg in this time too!
I celebrated my 26th birthday with the family with cards and balloons at breakfast, cupcakes and birthday songs at playgroup with the other mums and kiddies and then fish & chips with the children for dinner. And to top it all off a TimTam biscuit cake, yummy (these biscuits are officially better than Penguin bars back at home!). I was truly spoilt with tickets to go whale watching at the weekend where I was fortunate to see an adolescent whale breaching and a small pod swimming by, fantastic day :-)
Sadly my time with the family has now come to an end and it is time to get back on the road and see the remainder of Australia. I will be flying back up to Darwin in the North where I hope to meet some people to travel across and down the West coast, perhaps stopping off to do farm work on the way. I am being super brave and the total opposite of my usual self and have few plans.... with the aim that flexibility will help me gain even more new experiences. I will see how it goes, see where I end up and of course keep you posted.
