We basically just walked around the hilltop town and visited the Villa d'Este. There were a couple other major villas in the area, but one involved taking a separate (expensive) bus 6 kilometers south of the town, and the other apparently requires reservations. It worked out just fine though, as we've been told Villa d'Este is the best of the 3 anyway, and it really was very impressive. The building itself is pretty good, but the gardens and fountains behind are what really shine. they have views over the neighboring valley, as well as clear views to the mountain tops that surround the area.
After we were finished wandering here, we walked around the rest of the town and found a really nice pedestrian bridge over the river, so we sat and watched the traffic and people go by. Italy really is a great place to people watch, there are SO many different people, both indigenous and tourists. All in all, another successful visit, and another good day. I'll be sure to repeat the spontaneous visits, as they seem to be very enjoyable and a great excuse to get out of Rome for a while. So, another entry is sure to follow Sicily! A possible visit to Capri is coming up this weekend, or the soccer match with Rome v. Milan (huge game!), it all depends on if we can tickets.
