Today we visited the Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World. We took the ferry over to downtown Auckland to get a free shuttle ride on a bus that is made up to look like a giant great white shark. I can't wait to show you the pictures. At Kelly Tarltons we got to view penguins, sharks, stingrays, all kinds of other fish, turtles and a special display of sea horses and sea dragons. It was really interesting. To view the sharks we rode on a moving sidewalk through plexiglass tunnels so you could see the sharks and rays from underneath as well as on either side.

Our day got even better when we returned to Devonport. We booked a tour of the town by Segway. We had s half hour training sesssion and then away we went with our instructor. We travelled around the harbour and then went for a tour of the waterfront. I can't remember having so much fun in a long time. I always wanted to try driving one of those machines and it far exceeded my expectations. Cathy N, when you and Bill come back here next year this is something you must do!

Tomorrow our rental car is being delivered so we will be packing up and leaving. Our next stop is Dargaville. It will be our first car driving experience in NZ so wish us luck.

P.S.

On our first ferry ride to downtown Auckland we were amazed to see the Cunard ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2 tied up at the dock. It is huge!! It was here for 2 days, a very impressive sight.

Hi Linda and Diane,

Oh what fun you are having... you are right - we will have to give those machines a go when we are back next February. Neither of you fell off? I know you will have a great time driving through the countryside on your way to Dargaville. Don't forget to stop at the Kauri museum on the way (give yourselves lots of time to go through it). Keep on having fun! (Although I don't need to tell you to that!!)...
