This was the day we explored London on our own, sort of. We caught the metro fairly early and made our way to Tower Hill to explore the Tower of London. We were early enough that the crowds were minimal. We took a brief tour with a beefeater and had a look at the crown jewels. Again, this is a place where you could spend many days and not see it all. We saw the site where Anne Boleyn and others were executed, and the tower where so many were imprisoned.

From Tower Hill we took a cruise along the Thames to Westminster. Along the way we managed to pass Big Ben as it was striking 12 noon. That was really neat. We also went by the London Eye which is a giant ferris wheel right on the Thames.

At Westminster we walked over to Westminster Abbey, then walked on to Buckingham Palace with a stop for lunch at a pub along the way. After spending some time at Buckingham Palace - again, lucky since there weren't many people there - we got on one of those sightseeing buses where you hop on and hop off. We toured most of Central London, including Mayfair, the high end area where Diana used to shop, St. Paul's Cathedral, Victoria, Trafalgar square, Tower Bridge, London Bridge, Downing St.

After we hopped off we took the metro back to our hotel at Russell Square, quickly changed and then walked down to the Theatre area where we managed to find a place for dinner that was advertising 3 course meals for 14.50 pounds. What a deal and it was a fabulous meal. After that we walked over to the Lyceum Theatre and enjoyed the production The Lion King. Walked back to the hotel, had a good night drink at our favorite neighborhood pub and called it a day.

There is so much to see and do in London that 3 days just doesn't do it justice, but we did enjoy our time there and the weather was quite good, although cool.
