So here I am in China... a good flight, 12.5 hours and I muscled my way into the bulkhead seat.  You know, the one behind the first wall.  Slept pretty well with a sleeping pill.  Got into Beijing around 8 at night local time.  Went through amusing security and lots of very helpful assistants waiting to bring me the correct bus.  Always 4-6 people get involved with every question or juncture about where I go.  Got to the hotel and Herman, from Austria, was waiting to say goodnight.  I had a late meal, a beer and went to sleep, with a second sleeping pill.
I awoke early -- couldn't sleep past 5am, and had a 8am bus to catch.  Met a few of our crew then the rest -- about 20 of them, mostly from Vienna, an American living in Dubai, and the Spainiards who I know from my equipment.  Everyone is speaking German, Spanish or Chinese.

We went to our warehouse to check out our gear.  Didn't get anything accomplished - did put some equipment away.  It's very cool stuff we are doing.  The story is that one of our competitors, Westcam, is backed by the military even though it's used for gyrostabilizing cameras.  The Chinese gov't didn't want NATO technology and went with the Spanish system, Scorpio, which is where I come in.  So we have helicopter camera platforms, cable systems, car systems - kind of like what was used on Bourne Ultimatum, etc.  I'm learning the newest generation of the gear and a lot more procedure involved.

After finishing up we went out for dinner in a very swanky Duck restaurant.  Delicious, if a bit trendy and more Western in it's decor.  Afterwards, we went out for a few beers with our small crew of 6.  That's it so far.  Hard to believe that I'm in China is all I can say.  Very exciting.

Got the pictures and blog now.
It sounds like you are having the learning and networking opportunities you hoped for, and more, and that makes me very joyful. thanks for taking so much trouble to share the adventure.

I missed something, did not see any note about your being BOB. Is that the name on your hat?
