Where I stayed
Highlights of the tour included: Victoria Square - heart of the city, Gouger Street - restaurants/cafes, the grand boulevard of King William Street, the Terraces - north, south, east and west that separate the city from the greenbelts, parks, gardens and greenbelts,
River Torrens with its delightful garden banks, Parliament House, Trinity Church - Adelaide's oldest church, trendy Hutt Street, Adelaide Oval - one of Australia's most notable cricket grounds, quaint suburbs of North Adelaide, St Peter's Cathedral and
Colonel Light's Lookout on Montefiore Hill affording spectacular views over Adelaide
I called the YHA and was able to get the very last bed - an upper bunk - fortunately with a ladder to it. The overpopulation was due to the fact that Adelaide's is hosting this series of the Ashes Cricket tournament. Weirdly dressed people everywhere. I have the hostel bed until December 4 when I have booked a trip to Melbourne by way of a backpacker bus. I was also able to pick up a wineland tour for tomorrow.
Found one wireless internet place where I ordered a breakfast. After she brought it to me she told me the wireless did not work. Did not seem too concerned about it and pretty much blamed me for not asking. I moved on to another place where I got an hour or so of time then was cut off. The first fellow there re-connected me (after fiddling with my settings and shutting off my firewall - not what I wanted), but it went down again shortly after they sole me a new card and the next fellow claimed not to know anything about how it worked. Eventually he gave me my money back. I sort of have the impression that Adelaide folk think they are something pretty social without having a good reason for it.
Dinner at a place called the Indian Brasserie where I had a lovely meal of Matter Panner but had to wait almost an hour and a half for it
Was able to use the wireless internet in the hostel and got a bit caught up on my emails, etc. After that though, there was a bit of unpleasantness as there were guys (from the cricket) standing out in the lane shouting rude and threatening things in to the girls dorms. Not a fun time. Eventually they were chased away by the security. I suspect they were actually resident in the dorms as they know which the girls' dorms were.
