My 56th birthday.  Helen very kindly gave me a lovely card with a fairy wren on it, a 2007 Australian calendar and a Swiss dark chocolate bar.  She is also going to take me, her son and his girlfriend out to her cousin's place to have a look at a park nearby for birds (they have just come back from India) and for a seafood (and other) smorgasbord dinner at a place called Hillary's Boat Harbour  at, I think, North Beach or further north at Sorrento Beach.

I returned the car at about 9am.  The rental agency initially whined about giving me a day back on my rental but I pointed out that I'd only asked for an 8 day rental and they were the ones who'd said I probably would not get back there until the afternoon.  They eventually did give me my day's rental back but I think it was only because I in turn whined about it being my birthday.

I then went by bus down to a huge crafty store called Spotlight where I bought the makings for Christmas tree ornaments.  Green felt, scissors, and glue.  Then to Innaloo shopping centre for a nice bacon and egg, toast and vegemite breakfast.  Was also able to buy some more shampoo but unfortunately not a lot so will probably have to buy again in Melbourne.

Then headed home to have a very cool bath and sat about drying my hair, updating my journal, etc until about 6.  Unfortunately, about 3pm the weather deteriorated significantly and it was sooooo windy I almost thought the roof of the house would come off.  And it rained like the dickens.  I was in my sweater before long.  On the other hand, I was able to update my blog and photos to when I left Greece, the blog to just as I arrived in Johannesburg, and the map entries to today's date.  Quite an accomplishment.

About 6 we went over to Helen's cousin's place, shared a nice glass of wine and exchanged travel experiences.  We were going to, but did not, go to a park near their place.  It was storming quite badly and we thought better of it.

The restaurant was supurb!.  Lots of seafood so I had New Zealand Mussels, Australian 'yabbies (like crayfish), sushi, baby octopus, kamaboko and other lovelies.  Also had some salad, pumpkin soup and pumpkin and cream cheese chunks as well to meet the vegetable intake needs.  I am sure I had other things but those are the things I both enjoyed and went back for.  Dessert was fantastic: Crème Caramel, a chocolate cream bar of something and some Rocky Road bars.  Very yummy.

Back home again and continued updating the journal.  Just as I was going to shut things down, I got hit by a virus alert and had to take some quick action to avoid infection.  Eventually also had to run Norton Anti Virus which took the better part of an hour so bed was not until about 1.

Even then I absolutely had to finish the book I have been reading "Three Bags Full" a sheep mystery.  Enjoyed it to the last page when the sheep solve (and help the humans to resolve) a thought to be murder and one of the sheep leaders goes off and becomes a "dream sheep" - quite touching actually.  It was very rainy and windy.  Thought at one point the window was going to blow in.  Very good for the area though as they have been so dry lately.
