It was hotter than blazes. I received a text message this morning from my cousin, Gilly, in Oxford, that her husband, Anthony died last night. A very sad occasion. I called her back. She sounds tired but somewhat relieved as he had been ill for a long time. As she said, he has been in the battle of his life for about 40 years.

Wish I could be there but it is a bit of a madhouse. My cousin, Dave, from Vancouver was visiting her yesterday and was there when Anthony died. I am so glad someone was with her.

After I did some updating of my journal, Gillian, Allison and I went into Watford and saw Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest. It was a wonderful way to cool down and spend an afternoon away from the totally unbearable heat. Have no idea really how we got from the train to the theatre; however, it seems to me that we did it almost completely through a series of malls. My conclusion - same type of malls as everywhere. People maybe a bit more colourful as they seem to come from a greater variety of places than in Canada and the US.

A sideline to all the heat is that we are taste testing many types of squash (as in fruit drinks) such as Ame, Orange and lemon barley water, cordials with sparkling water. Before dinner, another cold meal, we again had wonderful Pimms, lemonade and fruits.
