March 19 - 20 Nanaimo
Stayed the night with some old friends in Nanaimo. We had very civilized sherry, scotch, etc and then went out to a marvelous restaurant called Nauticals. Sea food galore! I had all kinds of things I should not have including clams and mussels as well as things which were okay like salmon, cod. There were two types of dipping sauce including a thin wasabi sauce and a ginger sesame sauce. Stir fry veggies and rice. And I had a yellow-tail chardonnay as well. While it was really very tasty, these are not things which agree with me. Lovely bite or so of ice cream. Watched the news and an early night.

Next morning went off to church at St. Philips by the Sea (Anglican), Lantzville. Had some of the loveliest hangings and decorations I have ever seen. Service, sermon and tea following were also very welcoming and, to my way of thinking, "right on".

Took a drive around Nanaimo, where I used to live and work between 1976 and 1981. Not a lot has changed in the downtown core though the malls north and south of town are doing a booming business. A ferry was coming in and a very serious photographer had a good vantage point on the hill. I fitted myself in to his slipstream and took photos from the same spot which I think annoyed him a bit. Got some good shots though (g). Sun out and a lovely day for photography. In fact, I do not think I have had my jacket on since I left Kamloops. Lovely blue skies around and about.

Headed off south to see my cousin. We had a lovely time and I met her very capable marmalade kitty cat, Teddy, as well: is a lovely soft furred cat. Bit of a flirt. Tends to show off her belly then attack but her claws don't work properly. Um - Teddy, that is, not my cousin (g).

We had an amazing dinner meal at Mrs. Riches. Looks like a kitschy antique shop. Pictures of Elvis and Elvis memorabilia fill one wall; old telephones in many colours fill another. Hockey and sports posters and gear on another. A large stuffed giraffe's head with a gold medal 'round its neck pokes around from one room through a window into another. Assorted pictures of who knows what on the walls. Old and new beer posters, unidentified rusting metal parts with neon lights around it. They have a super giant burger (which I did not have) which if you eat it all; you can have it for free. Pictures of this as well with people looking rather ill.

Off to my sister's in Duncan.
