Breakfast at the Shaunessy is very basic. My choice was egg with cheese, no hash browns and one white toast - coffee half and half. Sort of a mix between a B & B and a cafeteria. Managed to get a lot of business "stuff" out of the way on my way out to lovely White Rock for a visit with a friend. She has a wonderfully circular view all about and can see as far as Mount Baker if it is a clear day. White Rock and all the area along the water there was inhabited by First Nations folk before settlement. One of her sons has a place at Crescent Beach and at one point he dug into a hill at the back of his land and found thousands of little stone beads about the size of a pea (but flat). She has them strung onto a sort of bracelet. They are apparently about 5,000 years old!

Next day was sunny and warm. Spring is definitely springing down here. I was able to wander 'round the Shaunessy and take pictures. Strange combination of Irish, NA Indian, Oriental. Headed over to North Van. The library there has wi-fi and free parking. Had a nice coffee with my cousin at "Bean around the World"on a rainy day.

St. Patrick's Day - Me in my green Tai Chi t shirt and all the staff from the Shaunessy wearing green as well. Met up with a very informative and helpful camera man, Henry Wong, at Broadway Camera. Mountain Equipment Co-op has compression bags which I was looking for. Found the last "cheap" gas at $.94 a liter. Having a bit of a hassle with my cell phone provider. Lots they didn't tell me grrr!. Unexpected costs to the North American travel plan.

If anyone is looking for a good wi-fi place and companionable café, try the Think! Café on 10th Ave out towards the university. Parking free on the street but watch you don't overstay the hour or so you're entitled to - best to move your car from time to time. The place offers STRONG coffee and munchies such as the veggie Panini I had

Went off to vist cousins. Lots of travel comparisons and recent photos of New Zealand. I am very much looking forward to going there. We had a lovely dinner of prawns and rice and tomatoes. Desert was a strawberry sauce over angel food cake and ice cream.

Cousins I was planning to see are not about today as they are going to Hawaii tomorrow (what a traveling bunch we are) but were fascinated to hear about my trip. Drove about looking for photo ops. Lovely cherry blossoms (white and pink) at Highbury and about 20th. Also took some photos of the mountains and sailboats. House I grew up in looks very dark and dreary. Big trees all but blocking it. Big hedge on one side. Big trucks parked outside. Drove down the lane and took a picture from the back. Lots of garbage bags. Rather sad.

Then headed back to West Van to take the ferry aver to the Island. Thank goodness I was listening to the radio. There was an anti Afghan War protest going on at the Burrard Armories which would block the bridge so I wound my way about to the Granville Bridge where there was no problem. By now it was a lovely sunny day but with a bite of winter still in the air. I pulled over at the beginning of the Lions Gate Bridge to take a picture of the Lion on the West side. Childhood memories. Was fortunate enough to drive out to the ferry and, without a delay, I was on the 3pm ferry

Finally!
What a fine site! The photos look fine (must be a good camera) and the adventure is clearly spelled out. Sorry it took so long to get connected.

Happy trails
