Arrived in Prague after two flights.....Johannesburg to Abu Dhabi and then Abu Dhabi to Prague. First flight was using Etihad (excellent airline : food, entertainment, space) and the second with Czech Airlines. I was one of the few non-Czechs on the plane and also had to face quite a few puzzled faces at the airport....do not really know why, my visa is in order!

Landed in Prague at about 1.45 pm. Here I was amazed at how quiet the airport terminal was. It was dead quiet in fact. No announcements or noise, and we seemd to be the only passengers there? I can only think that there has to be another busier international terminal, or that our flight had landed at a quiet time of the day.

I collected my luggage, passed passport control, then got cash from a nearby ATM. Bought a busticket to Zlicin metro station, at Zlicin bought a Prague unlimited transport ticket valid for one month, got onto the metro, and got off at Krizikova metro station....just as my accommodation website's directions had said! Easy as pie!

Casa Italia is about two minutes walk from Krizikova metro station, and I was greeted by the owner, paid for my stay, exchanged a few pleasantries, and was taken to my studio apartment. It is tiny, but definitely big enough for me, and has everything I require....satellite tv, kitchenette, free wifi, close to public transport, clean and safe.

Got out of my travel outfit and into gear more suited to the chilly Prague outdoors, brrrrrr. Took the metro at about 4pm (nearly dark by then) and did a two hour visit to the old town square area. Had been to Prague before so know exactly how to get there....which metro stop, where to walk, what to eat, drink, and so on. At the Xmas market in the square I had gluhwein, trdilnik (Czech almond pasty treat.....nice), collected my booked opera tickets at tourist information, and just enjoyed the happenings and vibe of the market. Still amazed at all the classical music performances on show every day....so many to choose from daily...in theatres and churches. I also had a laugh at the gadgets on show at the sex machines museum, and watched the famous astronomical clock do the hourly display and trumpet performance directly following the clock display.

Hit the sack dead-tired but excited about the time still to be spent in lovely Praha.
