So, this is it. It's all been working up to this. Today I will fly to Dubai and (extremely early) tomorrow morning I will fly to Cape Town. I feel that when the eventual realisation of what I've got myself into dawns I will no doubt be sick all over myself (although that could just as easily be due to the free bar). I'm going. For a year. With minimal, yes MINIMAL, internet. No more checking how many people found my tweet as hilarious as I did every 2 seconds, no more checking emails throughout the day and no more streaming TV.

I think I can still get online fairly regularly but no TV. That's a big one. The first two weeks I return to the UK I will just be gorging on all the american TV I've missed, it will be glorious. The last ever episode of Dexter, the newest series of Glee and all of Breaking bad is lost to me for the next 365 days.

I will of course miss people. I will almost definitely miss people. Just not right now. I find it difficult to comprehend goodbyes as I've spent loads of time with people recently. It's like if my parents ask me what I'd like when they go food shopping and I've just eaten I will say I don't want anything, fairly certain that I'll never be hungry again. The next day comes around and I'm gutted to find there's no bagels. Right now, I'm just perfectly content. There won't be any teary goodbyes, no running through airport terminals with declarations of love and no bloody Hugh Grant doing a voiceover.

See you tomorrow morning, Africa.
