We got to our hotel, and had a small bit of free time to do what we wanted, some people did washing, some went to the bar in the hostel next door, Rach and I drank vodka!! It was actually very funny - I could see how gradually Rachel was getting pissed, it was hilarious. Now I know what I must have been like when I was 18/19, and I probably still am like that, I just need to drink more to get to that stage, hahahahaha.....
We all hearded onto the bus for our dinner and nightlife walking tour. We went to a Shisha Bar, then another funky little bar, then another funky little bar that looked like something out of the 70's, and then to a nightclub. We didn't stay there too long, but it was a fun night. Had a bit of a dance at the last place. Got to get all dressed up too, felt a bit more of a lady!!
Got home, had a jungle of a time, then sleep for our walking tour the following morning!!
Berlin was a little different to what I expected. I'm not sure what I thought it would be, but it was different. A hell of a lot of history (no pun intended there) around the place too.
We did a walking tour through Berlin, and I actually found it to be quite interesting as I never really knew much about the Berlin Wall. The weather was shit, and it rained every time we stopped to have a chat about places. We saw a lot of places with historical significance, and what blew my mind was that some of these events happened within the last 100 years. We stood above where Hitler's bunker was. All that marks this spot is a sign that has a map of what the bunker looked like
In Berlin I had a chance to be in '2 places at once'. I stood either side of the line which marks where the Berlin wall once stood. So at the same time I was in former-East and former-West Berlin.
The tour ended at the Chequepoint Charlie Museum. This was all about the Berlin Wall. I understand the basics of why the wall was there - to keep people in, not people out. But I just couldn't get into it the way I was interested in other places.
After Chequepoint Charlie, lunch, then a few of us headed to the Topography of Terror. This was an outdoor museum located behind a piece of the Berlin wall that still stands today. This talked about what happened after World War 2, the trials of all those who committed was crimes and what happened to them. It was strange to look at photos of those sent to death for war crimes, some of them didn't have an evil look in their eye at all, and yet they did things worse than any one could imagine.
After this we headed back to the hotel - absolutely shagged after a big night, early morning and then walking tour. Rach and I napped before our dinner at the hotel that night.
A nice big buffet dinner tonight, had an interesting time at dinner...
Afterwards Rach and I hosted a room party. Basically anyone who wanted to brought with them booze and a cup and came to our room to have a few drinks and talk garbage.
About a dozen or so of us piled in the room. It was a funny night. We all were pretty hammered by the end of the night. Big Rob had worked out to get free porn which was hilarious. But anyway, it was another late night, but a good night... ;-)
I had issues the following morning in trying to get myself packed. I was again still drunk when I woke up, but a guardian angel helped me pack, and I made the bus, with time to spare!!
Then it was off to Hamburg!!
