Where I stayed

Well, Ios is over, for this year at least, and it's on to Santorini for less than 24 hours, but we went there so there!

Toni and I stayed at Perissa Beach at the youth hostel Anna. It was clean and fine for the night. Had a few good feeds whilst on Santorini. We didn't make it to Thira or Oia, the 2 main villages with the best views of the sunsets. We were absolutely buggered after our last shabang the night before in Ios. We did however, manage to get out of bed early the next morning to do the half day Volcano and Hot Springs tour. We had to be travelling on the probably the hottest days so far didn't we.

We walked all the way to the top of the Volcano, and I would tell you what it was called but i don't have the info pamphlet next to right now. We nearly died when we got up there, but we made it.

The Hot Springs weren't so hot, but apparently there are a few around, we got the cheap seats I think. I went in the springs, can now tick that one off my list.

So after less than 24 hours on Santorini, we boarded our next, and last ferry to Piraeus Port. Interesting ferry ride I guess. We were sitting in first class until Paros, when we realised that our tickets were only for the deck, and we were sitting in someone else's seat. So we ended up sitting at the bar on the deck (only seats we could find, I promise!), talking to the bartender, who gave us a free frappe and choccy milk. Score! It was a good time to write in my travel journal. I filled 7/8 pages with tales from Ios, and even started writing a crap load about Paris, even if it was back in March!

We arrived at Piraeus about 12.30am, and ended up tipping some old nutter 5 euro to carry our bag from the ferry to the bus stop. I didn't want him to help me, he just bombarded us. I will be more careful next time, I'm sure I can find a bus stop, and it was only around the corner.

Caught the bus to Athens International Airport, ate our first McDonalds in 3 months, then rolled out the sleeping bags, with all our gear under our heads and slept.... under the escalators. We like to call ourselves the hobos of Athens airport. Woke up refreshed around 10am, another maccas feed, put our luggage in storage, then into Athens for a few hours to see the Acropolis and Plaka district.

We finally got to the Acropolis. I had been there before going to Ios, but Toni hadn't so it was still exciting. I saw a couple of things I had missed the first time - Theatre of Dionysos, and some other things...

After 5 minutes Toni was ready to leave, I made her stay a little longer and appreciate it, I think she just wanted to go somewhere air conditioned, good thing there's a little museum there that was - a chance for us to charge our camera batteries up too!

Walked down to Plaka, still seedy like before, but some cool little trinkets here and there. Took a couple of piccies that I didn't take before.

We got the metro back to athens airport, another feed of maccas, and waited for check-in. I read our ticket wrong so we were about 2 hours early for check-in, but we got in the early class to be seated, had an 'A+' on my boarding pass, first 'A+' ever!

So eventually got on the plane after more food, biggest slice of pizza I've ever seen, and headed for London Luton airport....
