Yassou! That means hello in Greek...
Arrived in athens on Monday, about lunchtime. Bianca and I found our way from Athens International to the hostel no troubles. The hostel was nice enough, clean. But our booking got stuffed around and we ended up on fold-out beds in separate rooms. Not real happy about that. And also someone in my room stole my perfume so yeah, really not pleased with that place in the end. But the location, you couldn't fault it. We were literally around the corner from the Acropolis. B and I walked up there in the afternoon. It was a very hot day, well for us as we had not experienced such beautiful weather since leaving Oz. So yes, we walked up there, and you will see we took lots of piccies. A little disappointing that there was scaffolding everywhere, but amazing no less.
We walked around there for a while, and took in the view of Athens. Mama, didn't get to see it from every street corner, but definitely saw every street corner from it!!
After spending a good hour or so there we walked down the other side into Plaka. A district which is full of restaurants and markets, and everyone wanting to sell us something. When asked where we were from, and we said Oz, the next question was 'Sydney or Melbourne?'. Apparently not a big greek community in Brisbane and surrounds... and Papa, after that, they didn't ask if we knew their relos.
B and I took the approach, when in Rome do as the Romans do, and had Greek food for dinner. Musaka and Lamb we chose, along with cheese pies, and Ouzo to accompany. Ouzo, not recommended, but should have on the first visit. For those who received the email I sent from Athens, you will know that we tipped out what was left, and then gasped on shock when the waiters gave us another round complimentary. We drank all of that, thought we might burn in hell if we didn't.
Early to bed that night, absolutely buggered from all the walking. Up early=ish the next morning, and went to the airport to meet up with others arriving that day.
So, all together, we get on the bus to Piraeus to get the Ferry to final destination... Ios!!
