Greetings Family and Friends-
So, I found a great new diet! It's called walking in 85 degree weather for about 10 miles each day, then bringing Montezuma with you on a 15 hour train ride.
We are in Chernivtsi, and I had a wonderful tour of Istanbul. I then made my way to Ukraine, and it was so nice to meet up with the group. Chris took great care of me in Tajikistan, then Istanbul I was alone. We now Vera to help us all along the way. Vera met Susan, the director of our post-professional OT program, on a mission trip here and has now worked with us the past three years when we brought students.
The 15 hour train ride was long, especially since I had a very bad stomach bug. Immodium is our friend! :-) I finally cleared up yesterday.
Today, we went to a Ukrainian Orthodox Church. It is a very big event here, as today is The Trinity. Most Catholics probably know this. Some with us, did not. However, the church service goes for about 3 hours. Many people come and go. We went in for about 20 minutes. What a very truly touching spiritual experience. No seats...many rituals.
We are going to one of the orphanages this afternoon. I can't wait. We get to play with the kids all day and take some of the fun toys, games and therapy supplies to them. We will work with more disabled starting tomorrow.
This is the whole reason for this trip, so I am very anxious to start working with individuals and having those souls touch my life in a special way. All the rest of the travel has simply been a bonus.
I appreciate those who have wanted to share in this. The previous stuff I shared just for entertainment, but I hope I can share the work we do this week to help others reach out also. It's amazing how very easy we have it on a daily basis.
I have much, much more to share and tons of pics to share as well. But for now, I must go. It's lunch time, and they are ready to leave the internet cafe.
Love to all. We are now 7 hours ahead, so most of you are still sleeping but getting ready to wake for an exciting day in Indy, the 500.
Spaciba! (Thanks)
Jerry
