Today we get to start our road trip, first stop San Antonio.
Neither of us is hungry after our massive feast yesterday so we skip breakfast and go to the nearby walmart to pick up some essentials.
We go in separate directions and agree to meet up in an hour by the checkout. As we are spending so much time in the car we get a cool box to keep our drinks and snacks in as its so hot about 100 degrees today nothing stays cold for very long. With all our shopping loaded up we can finally get on our way,as i had such a good time seeing dolly parton the day before we left i bought her new album I'm going to get lee to listen to at least some country on this trip.

It's been so hot in Texas for the last few months and with little to no rain everything is dry and brown and there are sign blazers on the freeway waring of extreme wildfire danger.

After 2 1/2 hours driving we stop at IHOP to get something to eat and so lee can stretch his legs.
We don't realize how hungry we are until we sit down and look at the menu and realize we haven't eaten since dinner last night and it's now 2.30.I get a chicken and spinach salad and lee gets chicken broccoli and mash potatoes.Refuelled we head back out on the road we have another 1hr & 30 min drive to go.

As we drive in to downtown San Antonio we both say to each other that maybe we should have come here first there is lots of interesting buildings and lots of people wandering in and out of shops and restaurants. We check into our hotel have a little snooze and freshen up then head out to explore, as you walk out the front door he heat hits you we have got used to the heat yet as we've been in the air conditioned car all day.We have heard good things about the river walk area so head in that direction. When w arrive it looks like a scene out of a movie with lots of bars and restaurants all lit up with thousands of fairy lights there is a lively atmosphere and all sorts of music in the air. There is a tour that takes you around the river on a little boat so we do that to see whats around. After our tour we walk back along the river to a few places we like the look of the crab place we saw had a 30min wait so we move on to the next place which has live outdoor jazz music and cocktails so we decide to stop there and listen to the three guys playing the sax, piano and percussion. We both really like the atmosphere so we stay sitting outside listening to the music and drinking our cocktails (peach martini for me and JD and coke with lime juice for lee) under the stars and its starting to cool off a bit as well.Still full from our lunch we just order a snack of tortilla chips and beef with onion and salsa dip.By 11.30 my eyes are getting tired and as nice as it would be to stay out we want to get up early to explore some some more of San Antonio tomorrow. We ask for the check and we leave a tip for the jazz guys and the sax player comes over and has a quick chat with us when he finds out we're English he  tells us he's got friends in Kent and has some ties from "marks & sparks"
