After an interesting and enjoyable week in Melbourne, I came to feel that I would be happier initially in a smaller and more accessible place.  I did do a little half-hearted job searching, and might have had luck had I been prepared with mobile numbers and resumes - and by the time I was prepared, I felt like I wanted to see some more Australian Australia before I work in a city (if I do).  So I've headed out west along the "Great Ocean Road" which runs between Melbourne and Adelaide.  I'm currently in Torquay, a very surfing-oriented seaside town.  I've been bodyboarding and this morning my friend who has a surfboard tried to give me some surfing tuition, but the waves were so small even the skilled were struggling to stand up.  It's all good fun though - even if I did spent 2 hours doing not much apart from floating around on the board, its nice to be out there in the ocean, which is wonderfully warm for someone who's used to the North Sea!
I'm not quite sure how far along the coast I'm headed.  I'm waiting for the delivery of my WWOOF membership pack (Willing Workers on Organic Farms).  Basically, the organisation puts travellers in touch with vetted farms who give them food and accomadation in return for 3-4 hours work a day.  From everyone I've spoken to who has done this, it's good fun and mostly the host families take the time to show their workers around the area a little, or at least let them borrow bikes etc. in order to explore.  If there is anywhere suitable with space on the way to Adelaide, I'll continue west; if not I might just go a little way further and then head back to Melbourne.  It's all so complicated, especially when I meet people who I want to travel with but we're headed in different directions!
Change of subject:  I now have an Australian mobile so if I need to be contacted outside of cyberspace it's 0061 422 477 810.
