Today we had signed up to do a cooking class that was recommended in the guidebook. We decided to do a half day class and were picked up at 8am. We had to pack up and check out before hand because we wouldn't be back until after check out time so it was a bit of a rushed morning. After picking up others along way we arrived at the cookery school and met Ya, who is the main chef!

First of all Ya asked us if we had any preferences as to what dishes we made (and then ate), and in the end we had selected 4 curries, 3 stir-fries, 2 soups, egg fried rice and a salad. Then we had to do some chopping and other preparation, mainly for the curry paste and we were shown how to do everything. Next Ya showed us how to to make the 4 curry pastes - red , green, masaman and panang curry pastes, and it was all made to look extremely easy! We also got to taste the curry pastes and they are rather hot as no coconut milk has been added yet. Apparently you can freeze the curry pastes in icecube trays and then that would a portion to get out as and when you need it- very handy tip.

Because there was 7 of us in the cookery class, a couple of people took the ingredients for each curry to cook. We all had our own station and someone showing us what to do and what to add at each stage. Again it was all extremely easy, only taking less than 10 mins. I was making Thai green curry and Jack made panang curry (yes he can cook!). We got to taste each fish and they were all delicious!

Next we made the stirfries which were Pad Thai, chicken with cashew nuts and chicken with red curry. Again we were split up into pairs and then got a dish each. I was making the pad Thai and Jack made the one with cashew nuts - this is now probably his favourite Thai dish! We also made egg fried rice, which is very hard not to get it all stuck to the bottom of the pan as Jack found out. As a team we made the papaya salad which was all done in a mortar and pestle and tasted really good, even though it's something me and Jack wouldn't have said would have eaten before. Finally we made the soups, 2 groups made chicken in coconut milk and the other group made it with prawns. again this was something me and Jack didn't think we would like and it was really tasty.

After all the dishes had been cooked we all sat round a big table and dug in. We were also provided with rice to go with it and it didn't matter that some of the dishes were a bit cooler now. There was so much food and lots was left after - we were even offered little bags to take some back with us. Once we had all finished we were taken back to our hotels. The cookery course had been really good and great value for money as it was cheaper with more dishes than some of the others we had looked at. We even got given a small recipe book of what we had made and we bought an apron.

We got back at our hotel at 12.30 and our bus wasn't until 3pm. Luckily the lady who ran our guesthouse (who had also booked our minibus) offered to see if we could go on the 1pm one and then took us too the travel agents to catch the bus. Extremely helpful and handy because it saved us hanging around and meant we arrived in Phuket earlier than expected.

The minibus to Phuket was fine, a little slow as he kept stopping to pick people up, but definitely not the worst journey we have had. We were dropped at a bus station quite a long way from Phuket Town, but we were able to get a local bus like a big sorngtaaou for only 20p each to take us to the centre of town. From there it was only a short walk to our next guesthouse. This also turned out to be fine and we were only staying one night anyway.

In the evening a storm arrived. We had planned on wandering round town to see the architecture which was meant to be really nice, but neither of us fancied doing that in the rain. All we managed was walking to a restaurant to get dinner. We had a tv in our room so we watched some American shows they have on a channel called universal. Much better than walking around in the rain!!
