Ok so the trip started off well and early - 5am, 4hrs from Lima to Panama then a 3hr wait before boarding the plane to Houston Texas - passable food quality and the usual cramped seating.  Upon arrival to Houston we were told that as this was the first point of entry into the United States we would have to reclaim our bags and go through customs here - even though we only had an hour between landing and our connecting flight to Los Angeles.  I was worried, especially after the circus we had getting through customs in San Francisco last time.  Anyway we landed and straight away I started looking for a Continental representative to point us in the right direction of our connecting flight - no such luck.  We got to customs and joy of joys the queue was about 200 people deep, all of them being questioned by the lovely customs officials.  I asked 4 different people explaining that we had a connecting flight and all of them gave the same helpful reply - there are loads of flights to LA, just catch another one, you cant skip the line.
Wonderful.  So we stood in line way past the departure time of our scheduled flight - why plan flights an hour apart when you know you have to go through customs??!!!! - and finally we got through only to find that the incompetent bastards had lost our luggage AGAIN!!!!! Like they did on the way!!  My backpack was there but the suitcase with all Als clothes and my make up and toiletries in was missing - and they had no clue where as the luggage label had not been scanned anywhere.  So we went to the Continental helpdesk and they put us on standby for the last 2 flights to LA that night - my bag was checked in and sent on the first flight, we didnt get on either of them and after hanging around the airport complaing a lot we finally got a free hotel voucher for the night until the confirmed flight the next morning at 7am - so we headed off to the hotel at around 11pm for a few hours sleep.
Finally got to LA at around 11am the next morning, minus the bag.  Filed a complaint and they said that apparantly it was still sitting at Panama airport. noone had thought to forward it on to the destination printed on the label.  It was due to arrive at midnight and they estimated it would be delivered to us by noon the follwing day, leaving Al with no change of clothes for nearly 3 days and me with no make up which was not a pleasant sight.  We were both fuming and rang up Continenal to complain, they said they would pay for some clean clothes so we went shopping and submitted a claim for the money back.......lets see how that goes though knowing them I am not optimistic!!  PLease I beg of everyone do not fly with them!!! And if you do take your luggage as carry on!!!!!
Ps luggage finally arrived 5pm the following day, 59 hours after leaving Peru:))  Wankers:)))
