Hong Kong and Macau are both classed as autonomous regions of China, as Australia is to the UK.  They both have their own governments and laws and therefore we have to go through customs to get into them, luckily we didnt need a visa to get into Macau but we have our China visa ready for crossing the border next.  We caught the ferry from Hong Kong at midday, horrid day - colder than ever and pissing down with rain.  The boat was tossing and turning because of the weather, Al fell asleep and yet again I spent the hours ride throwing up in the toilet - me and boats do not suit each other!!  Got there and headed for a recommended guest house (supposedly the cheapest in the place) and it is interesting to say the least.  The street its on was used for filming in 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' - see if you recognise it from the piccies and the hotel itself is basic to say the least.  Its also freezing, has no windows in the room so its very noisy and I suspect heavily that the first floor is used by prostitutes as there seemed to be a few congregated in the lobby when we arrived!  Neverless its a room, its cheap and its raining so heavily outside I would happily stay anywhere with a roof!!  Passed some pretty impressive looking casinos on the way here so am looking forward to checking them put when the weather improves.
After a very poor nights sleep - the place definitly is used as a brothel as we have been treated to shouting, laughing and the sounds of sex all night - not in a good mood the next morning!  Still raining a bit but we couldnt face staying in the hotel so we went for a look around.  There seem to be quite a few monuments here and the streets are very pretty in the old portugese style, we climbed to the ruins of an old church and had a look inside the main catholic church in the centre of the town.  After that we took a wander over to the casinos and chose 2 to have a look in 'phaerohs place' and 'casino lisbona', the chinese really love their gambing!  We went in at around 5pm expecting it to be full of men huddled around machines, instead it seemed to be a family day out in there!  Loads of old chinese lady card sharks huddled around the tables and grans, mums and daughters throwing hundreds of dollars away!  We played a few of the machines and a bit of roulette.  Sadly the poker tables were to expensive so we couldnt use our newly aquired facebook skills, and I couldnt find blackjack which was a shame as I like that!  Anyway we came away about even but we only spent about 10 pounds so not exactly in with the big boys!
Went for dinner and after that I give up with meat.  Maybe im just a wuss but I cant cope with my food arriving with great lumps of chicken wing or skin or bone sticking out of it.  I am going to stick to vegetarian from now on.  The chinese are a bit too fond of 'any' type of meat for my liking!
Next day after another noisy night listening to the shagging of the local prostitutes we caught the bus across the chinese border to Guangzhou.
