So after waking at 7.45am and the minibus arriving at 8am it was a bit of a frantic rush to pack and leave Langkawi, made it - but sans make up which was quickly rectified as soon as we got to the ferry terminal.  We had a nice couple from up north and a older dreadlocked bloke -Carl - who has been travelling for the last 12 years on the bus with us so it was nice to have some company for the very long day ahead.  Hour long boat ride over to the Thai border of Saturn, breezed through immigration then were transported to the bus station for the four hour journey to Krabi.  Nice comfortable coach (with a toilet!!) and a seat each to spread out in and we arrived in Krabi late afternoon. Caught a local bus to Au Nang where we were planning to get a longtail boat to Ton Sai but unfortunatly it was dark and the prices tripled so it was a cheap guesthouse, burger king and bed for us.  Early start and we caught the longtail boat over to Ton Sai which is a beach popular with climbers due to the cliffs surrounding it, it is also where al lived for about 9 months when he was travelling last time so it was a place he was keen to revisit.  Got a nice cheap wood cabin complete with outside toilet and mosquito net and headed down to the beach bar where als friends work for dinner and a few drinks.
Next day we were up bright and early, due to perhaps money saving reasons?? the electricity is only turned on from 6pm until 6am - ok as far as light goes but without a fan the cabin soon turns into an oven at around 8am so its a battle of laziness wills as to whether I can continue to sleep on even in the heat!  We caught the longtail over to Railey beach which is around 5 mins away - lovely beach with many caves to swim too and explore - also very busy and with very little shade, not good when its 90 degrees plus!  We manages to find a spot under a cave next to the 'penis worship site' - dont ask!! and we stayed there most of the day poppping in and out of the sea.  Due to the tide going out we were able to walk back to Ton Sai across the rocks which was a treacherous journey to say the least! surprised I made it in one piece!
Next day we just had a quiet one, played a bit of backgammon, table tennis and pool, read a lot, had a few walks and generally just lazed around.  You cant really swim off Ton Sai due to the rocks in the sea so the next day I was keen to get some beach action.  Sadly al was not so I headed over to Railey on my own and curled up under the cave for a day of reading, swimming and ipoding (if thats a word.....) anyway the time came to head back to Ton Sai and I was a little apprehensive about wading back over the rocks as I was no good even when al was helping me.  Grand plan was I'll lurk around until the tide has gone out enough, then attach myself to some friendly looking people and attempt to follow them, I waited and waited.  People went by me and disapeared but every time I looked the tide was still there, it was getting dark and I was getting stressed so I had 2 choices - risk the slippery rocks with the tide still in or go the cliff top way.  This is a route that is very popular with Ton Sai visitors who, mainly due to being climbers, find it easy to skip and bound over the rocks - al had showed it to me before and refused to do it saying it was too hard and to give you an idea how hard it is you have to pull yourself up a rockface with a rope to start off.  Loads of people were going back that way (including some people in their 50's) so I thought 'bugger it' Il give it a go.  Hoisted my beach bag over my shoulder, pulled by dress up and got up the rope, I was so amazed at doing it I forgot I would have to get down the other side! Very Very slowly and with many people skipping past me I made it over and was helped at the end bit by a nice Thai man, without whom I would have been stuck there possibly all night.  Got back and told al what I had done and I think he thought I was making it up, but I soon changed his mind!  Was aching somewhat after my physical efforts so early night for us.
Following day and we were approached by a young man at breakfast who was looking for people to go over to Chicken Island - a rocky uninhabited island off the coast popular with sightseers and snorklers - we hadnt been before so agreed to go with some other people to share the cost.  6 of us headed off by longatil for a whistle stop tour of three small islands off the coast of Ton Sai, two of them were uninhabited and tiny with just a beautiful sandy beach and clear green sea.  Ko Poda had one resort built on it but was otherwise unspoiled.  We stayed for a while on each, plenty of time to relax in the sea and do some snorkelling - and were lucky enough to see some beautiful fish.  After 4 hours of island hopping we headed back through some choppy waters which again left me feeling a tad queasy - think my stomach is weakening in my old age!! Had dinner then al went out drinking with our new friends while I had an early night and finished my book - we are heading to Ko Lanta tomorrow.
