We arrived in Austria to sky-darkening clouds and the beginning of rain. Barely over the border and the architecture is suddenly different again - including a sudden penchant for horse fountains.
Trying to escape the miserable grey weather we sheltered in the Cathedral. An art installation in the crypt had creepy flickering shadows flying across the walls and the talking clock droning non stop - a reminder of the swift passage of time and mortality. Hmm, maybe being out in the grey weather is not so bad by comparison... so we set off to climb the hill to the castle although by the time we got there the whole thing was shrouded in mist. The hill is covered by pleasant woodland where we succeeded in getting totally lost, exacerbated by the fact that all the paths down again were blocked off with huge 'danger, fireworks' signs.Thankfully we were not trapped for the night, but we did have a rather brisk power walk to make it to the station for the last train (we even managed to fit in a beer buying stop).
