We got into Brasov station at about 6am, not particularly rested, but made it to our hostel just in time for breakfast. The old town of Brasov consists of remnants of old walls, complete with bastions and reconstructed towers, surrounding the town hall with its clock tower in the main square. And of course the adjacent church, billed as the "largest gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul". If you say so. We climbed the hill to see the citadel, expectations dropping when we saw the "citadel touristic complex" sign - but it was completely deserted, faded restaurant signs swinging in the breeze. It was also overgrown, so there were not many views to be had. Better views were from Mount Tampa, a lurching, swaying cable car ride uphill to the mountain where the hollywood style 'Brasov' sign is located.
From Brasov, we spent a day visiting Bran castle, supposedly visited once by Vlad 'Dracula' Tepes, it has somehow ended up with the "Dracula's Caslte' badge. Which is odd, because it is the least Dracula-ish castle imaginable, no doom or gloom in sight. And no dungeons.
