Where I stayed
West End Backpackers
Our overnight bus was early, so we had half an hour to wait outside the hostel in typical Glasgow summer weather (constant rain). We visited Glasgow Cathedral, home of archbishop Blackadder (I'm not entirely sure if they are having us on). The city center is all grand buildings, archways and stained glass - not quite what the trainspotting movie had led us to believe.
We headed uphill, where the towers of Glasgow university dominate the skyline where I tried to imagine my great grandmother studying a century ago. the university buildings don't look like they have changed a lot since then. The modern day students daily prank is to crown the Duke of Wellington statue with a traffic cone. It is removed every day, and the routine continues.
