Where I stayed
We arrived in Oxford on the very sunny first day of study break. The shopping mall was a throng of people and the museums crowded with children. A walk around the meadow of Christ Church college (yes, it has a meadow complete with cows and a river for boating around) and we discovered the rest of the student population - lying on the grass hungover watching the punts glide by, occupants sipping wine.
Once we had our fill of beautiful architecture and lawns that required a geometry degree to mow (and the rain) we headed into a few museums, all of which seemed to have started from one crazy professors collection of 'curiosities' from back in the day where stealing things from foreign countries was legal. The Ashmolean museum has half of Knossos, the Minoan site we saw on Crete. My favorite though was the display describing the crusaders as 'armed pilgrims'.
