We caught the bus to Otepaa, a small town in the South of Estonia, to discover the tourist information office and the hostel closed. Detouring down a side street, we found a large 'hostel' sign and a house crowded with extremely friendly people who were extremely surprised to see us. It turned out that the hostel is usually unattended at this time of year, but the owners had come to stay for a big party the night before and were more than happy for us to stay... so we had an entire holiday house to ourselves for a couple of days. Problem solved.

On our first foray out to find some forest to hike around, we discovered the 'energy pole' a tall wooden stake marking the centre of the positive energies in the region complete with instructions for gaining benefit from these energies. Instructions for how to commune with the trees to gain energy were included.

We also found an ancient wooden ski-jump tower, which at about 90m high made a great vantage point for views over the area. When the wind picked up and the whole thing started to sway we made a rather hasty descent.

The walking trails were almost deserted. We set off around lake Pujaharve and walked for about 20km, seeing a lot of lake and forest scenery and a total of about two other people. With much anticipation we embarked on the Sensation Trail, advertising a Jumping Box, Variety and a Forest Stock Exchange. Turns out they must have used thesaurus mode on google translate when they made the brochure... the mundane reality was a seat, a swing, and forest wildlife information signs.
The peaceful pine and spruce forest complete with bird call soundtrack made up for it though.
