Where I stayed
As you would expect from the lake district, Ambleside is a pretty town of stone buildings and constant rain. The scenery was beautiful and it was nice to see some sheep with their skin still attached instead of on a spit roast.
We went hiking along picturesque lake Windermere past the Roman ruins - not quite so impressive as only a few foundations remain. We hiked up a couple of the smaller hills to discover some very windy summits. Our first day we had beautiful cloud free views over surrounding lakes. The second day we were not so lucky, and it felt like we were walking in the cloud, though I'm sure the view would have been lovely if only we could have seen it.
