You've probably heard of the Suez canal? Well that is the tourist attraction of Suez, and its the only one. The suburbs out along the canal itself (Port Tawfiq) consist of seemingly endless rows of identical newish concrete apartment blocks with a few stands selling chips and chocolate along the water - having a snack and ship watching seems to be the local past time. Well there is nothing else to do.
I am surprised to find myself saying that watching the cargo ships cruising by is actually a rather relaxing way to spend an afternoon and evening!
The downside being that there are no felafel stands in Port Tawfiq (and Suez is too far to walk) and we are stuck staying at the only cheap hotel around which does not seem to have been cleaned. Ever.
