I donīt start liking Japan until we find the quiet streets and canal side walks aflame with the last of the red and yellow autumn foliage. Lucky for us, we have assistance in finding these spots as we run into our friend Mario and get a guided tour from his Dad, who lives in Kyoto.
Saturday evening turns into Maiko safari as we hide out trying to spot the apprentice geisha hurrying out to their teahouse appointments, trying to avoid the flashing of foreigner cameras.
A visit to the manga museum turned surreal as it turned out to be the local hangout for twenty-something girls dressed as manga characters (and a guy dressed as Ronald McDonald... go figure) posing for cameras.
Being Kyoto, we also fit in some compulsary temple visits, and a trip to the monkey park to feed the free roaming monkeys.
