Word o' the day: Gracia
Pronounced: Grah- see-ah,   gracia

In English: Grace

So, when you say gracias or thank you in Spanish, you are saying graces. I just discovered this. Oh, the beauty of learning language.

Here I sit, surrounded by sloppily folded clothes, hand fulls of Starbursts, and one big empty suit case. My mind switches every few seconds from the task of packing, to unwrapping and gorging on the candy, then to the friends I've just said goodbye to, and then to my family sleeping in their rooms surrounding me.
Now, back to the clothes.
In less than 36 hours I'll leave this house for a year.
Man, can I really fit my life into a few bags? No, but that's not the point.
I really wish they'd add more pink Starbursts to the package.

And so it goes...
The facts of the matter have been systematically entered into my head over the past few months. I leave August 15th for a week of orientation in Chicago, and then the 22nd we leave for our countries of service. I'll be spending up to a month in a language school to attain a conversational level of Spanish of which I already have a base. I will then move to my host family's house (who I do not know yet) and begin my service at an elementary school, teaching English, and of course- Tae Kwon Doe. I will be safe, and I will not drink the water. I have the facts.

The reality of it has just started to sink in. I've said goodbye to my church. A church that is so kind and awesome that they put on a dinner (where the youth worked quite hard might I add along with Caren Cahill n' crew) in order to contribute to my year in missions. They took me quite serious when I said "$11 keeps Aaron away". All I can say is that the church is aptly named. Muchas gracias. Last count from Grace's hard working office staff: $4,001 (with more coming in). Goal met. God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good.

Though I'm looking back on a wonderful summer, where I traveled to New Orleans with a great group of young people, I must start to look forward to tomorrow. In all honesty, I've come closer with some of my friends and family than I ever have because of this experience. Now, I get to joyfully anticipate the new friendships that await me. Man, I'm getting sappy. Let me finish strewing these clothes about the living room.  Will update soon.
