Flag of France  , Champagne-Ardenne,
Tuesday, July 9, 2013

So we've survived 2 days and approximately 120 miles so far. We're in the Champagne region of France in a medieval city which has incorporated modern architecture, including our hotel (the Mercure), quite well. Walked around ALOT and had an exquisite French dinner with the requisite steak tartare and creme brûlée.
But enough about me....
I'd like to tell you a little about some of the people on the trip.

I met Brian Cox on the first leg of the Coast-to-Coast Cycle America tour in 2010, then joined him and some other friends from that group in Spain in 2011. Brian's one of those incredibly agreeable, optimistic people who says "There are no problems, only solutions". He's passionate about life, including his job - he's an engineer w/ Jet Propulsion Laboratories and he sends things into space (notably the Juno Satellite and Mars Rover). He also worked on developing Disneyland Paris when he worked previously for Disney. He's a strong cyclist w/ many long distance cycling trips under his belt. And fortunately, he's easily detoured for coffee, pastries or ice cream. Also known as The Garminator. But if you DO get lost w/ him, he always makes it fun. He has a GREAT blog w/ great pictures. Check it out at

Tomorrow we head for Montigny le Roi, 138k or approx. 85 miles.
