The first day that I haven't woken up without an alarm, most uncomfortable bed so far! Was like sleeping on the floor and the pillow was as thin as an after eight mint!
Up at 6.45am so we will be late for breakfast today.
We left at 8am heading east for Nequen before going north to our destination, this detour avoided some off roading which nobody wanted to do.
Garage stop 9.30. Scenery is nothing to write home about...so I won't.
Got really lost heading into Nequen, stopped to ask for directions, the woman only spoke Spanish so that was interesting but not very helpful. Luckily a man stopped in his car and came over to help and he spoke really good English, so we were on our way again. It never ceases to amaze me how friendly and helpful people are. They actually go out of their way to help, you don't get that back home.
Stopped at Santa Isabel (323 miles) for petrol but they had no electricity - so no petrol. It was wait around on the off chance that it ever came back on or try to make it the 90 miles to the next petrol station. This was decided over an ice cream and we opted to make a break for it.
It is unbelievable how many people wave, smile, hoot their horns and look genuinely pleased to see us...its really lovely and heart warming!
Nothingness...then all of a sudden civilization, farms and small holdings everywhere. Everything was green again. Plots and fields were set out in neat rows growing all kinds of produce. It still confuses me that you can have a house that is virtually falling down, with no windows and most of the roof missing, and then a minute down the road there will be a lovely, well presented house that would be really nice by standards back home. That is how it is here - very poor and well off are neighbours.
After getting slightly lost, but only slightly, we arrived at our Hotel at 8.30pm, 495 miles! A very long hard day.
Dumped stuff in the room, put jeans on and went to Pagoda restaurant for all you can eat Chinese.
Sleep by 11.30 - this is very tiring stuff!
