So Sam told me he had a surprise for me, and it was a good one! His colleague used to be a commercial pilot and he flies small planes for fun these days. He got me a seat this evening!

As soon as I got to Menlo Park, Sam took me to his office to meet everyone.

The office is a really cool open plan startup with lots of snacks and posters on the wall, and they are all super friendly. I met Travis, Eunice and Mark the pilot, and then Mark took me and Eunice to Palo Alto airport.

We decided on Monterey for dinner, and Eunice took the co pilot seat. After doing lots of checks and safety lessons, we set off. The flight there took about 20 minutes and we saw the most AMAZING sunset on the way over!

We had fresh seafood dinner at a pier restaurant, and then flew back to Palo Alto. I was co pilot on the way back, and took the controls for a bit while we flew over the bay. I had to keep the plane at 5500 feet and steer it along the coast line. It's more difficult than it looks, and really scarey fun. As a night flight it was really peaceful and the view was beautiful in a twinkly way.

When we got back to the office Eunice and I were really hyper because we were so excited about the whole thing, just running around like kids being all excited. I wish I was a better writer because I can't describe how cool the whole thing was. It had a real feel of old fashioned glamour, how the other half live!

Sam and Gemma drove me all the way back to the city, which was really sweet of them. It gave me a good chance to catch up with them. Sam hates flying but Gem might give it a go when she's not 7 months pregnant :).
