As my plane landed at the Cheddi Jagan international Airport in Georgetown,Guyana as i started to disembark the plane it hit me, a burst of wonderful heat, hotter than a volcano. I cleared customs quickly without any trouble. I collected my luggage and proceeded to find a taxi. I told the driver take me to the Pegasus Hotel. Once i arrived at the hotel i was greeted by a concierge. I was so exhausted, that once I got my room I went straight to bed.
The next morning I woke up to the birds chirping at my window while the sun crept up on me. I go downstairs to have breakfast, I drank a freshly squeezed cup of orange juice and ate a couple of bluberry pancakes. When I was finished eating, my friends had recommended Kaieteur falls for me to visit , In my travelers guide to Guyana it says that the water drops coming from the falls are 741 meters in height. The only way to view Kaieture falls is to fly over it in a small plane so it can be viewed from the top. When the plane landed in the landing area, we all had to get out to get a closer look at the falls. The only way to get closer to the water was by taking a path leading to the falls.
When we were walking through the path i noticed a few interesting birds. I spoke to the guide and he told me about the birds lingering around the falls, there are screamers, hoatzin( the national bird of Guyana) and many others. I slipped about 3 times because there were a lot of jagged and slippery rocks. We were very close to the water when all of a sudden we heard a hissing sound, as we turned around to see what what was making that noise, we saw an anaconda hanging from a tree staring at us. We were shocked at what the guide had done. He scrambled for his gun out of the bag and shot the snake.
No one had said anything until we had arrived at the top of the falls. The guide advised us to take off our shoes, he had said to try and stand on the rocks in the water. I was the first to go, i had placed my foot on one of the rocks and as soon as i did i had automatically slipped with the rock. The guide then let everyone else try it, they all had the same bad experience as i had. The guide had explained that this was one of the many strange attributes of the falls.
Across the river we could see a pack of Jaguars, they looked hungry, we started to back away, the Jaguars started jumping from rock to rock. The guide then yelled to quickly get back to the plane, we all started to jog to the plane but when the Jaguars got to the other side they started running so we had all decided to run also. We had made it just in time to get on the plane. But we did not realize that the Jaguars were scratching at our windows, so the pilot took off immediately. We were all relieved that we were alive after that adventurous day.
