Yesterday was another glorious day in London, sunny and warm. Too bad we had to leave, on to more adventures in Scotland! We took a bus, an hour plane ride, and then another bus to get into downtown Edinborough. When you get on a plane here you get to pick your own seats, first come first serve. We were lucky to get a window seat. From above, the country side is not so much a square patchwork of fields like North America, it's more like different shapes of puzzle pieces. The landscape is mostly green but there are yellows and purples as well. It is pretty hilly here. Cobblestone streets. Our hostel is in front of the Edinborough Castle. This massive castle sits atop a jagged crown of black rocks and is surrounded by a strong tall wall. Looks like it would have been impossible to storm this castle. We're going to explore this and surrounding cemeteries today.
After we arrived at our hostel last night we went out for some dinner. It was hard to find vegetarian options, besides potatoes, unlike London where menus honour many different eating lifestyles. We tried some Scotch (Glenmorangie, Talisker, and Isle of Jura... very pungent, I liked the third one the best) and some beer (Tennents and McEwans). We're going to investigate some more pubs later today and look for some traditional Scottish food. We've seen lots of flyers for music tonight and Saturday night too.
