So last night, Dave, his roomate Claire, and I, we went out to a British comedy club. It was really funny. I didn't get a lot of the jokes because they were about famous British people that I don't know but the comic's faces were hilarious and there were a lot of smart alecs in audience. After the show, since it was their five year aniiversary, we all got chocolate cake!!
Today Dave and I went to the Tate Modern musuem. We saw a lot of interesting works of visual and aural art. The weather was cloudy and damp, a bit of the old 'London fog'. We walked over the Thames on the Millenium Suspension Bridge before and and after the museum. There are some massive stone edifices on the waterfront. I really stopped to contemplate the relationship between the size of a society's structures and that culture's preception of the rest of the world. The two of us window shopped down Oxford Street and the brought home excellent pizzas; they have corn as a pizza topping here which was excellent. Walking around was facinating! There are many disgruntled babies in this city. We took the subway a lot. Typical of English culture, we saw headlines deeming toothpaste to cause cancer. Yikes!
Tonight dave and I went to a cluc called Fabric. We were expecting a drum'n'base/breaks night but it proved to be live bands. They were very good but since we had been misinformed by the weekly entertainment magazing we didn't have to pay cover. Things are very expensive here. Almost everything except beer, which they sell in convenience stores, is surprisinglg costly. Luckily beer is surprisingly cheap. I tried this beer called Kronnenburg last night and drank canned Stella tonight (not nearly 15 like the song implies!). We take the subway everywhere, it's a great system. For a city of 8 million people, I think it probably caters to everyone. During rush hour you literally cannot move in the cars.
I'm looking forward to more chocolate croissants for breakfast tomorrow. Organic milk is pretty much all that they sell and it is a good price. Things are good. I'm so lucky to be here, I'm enjoying every minute!
