Went to a friends' cottage for a few days, spending time swimming in the lake in the morning and sitting on the dock in the evening. During the day we took a drive along the "Taste Trail" which highlights the up and coming vineyards in Prince Edward Country (famous for award winning produce). We tried the Sandbanks Winery, Carmela Estates, The Grange, and Huff Winery - all very pleasant vineyards and warm and welcoming houses where you can experience and taste the wine making process, usually about a dollar per ounce.
To get to West Lake, we drove out Hwy 33 from Kingston, along the shores of Lake Ontario. Bath Road is one of my favorite drives. We used to stop at Fairfield Park with my grandparents when we were kids, have a little picnic lunch and cool our feet in Lake Ontario. At the end of Bath Road (Hwy 33) is the Glenora Ferry, a short but lovely commute to Picton and the Sandbanks.
The full corn fields, golden grass and brown hay bails, and random meandering animal creates a landscape that is beautiful enough to give you goosebumps, especailly if listening to Kingston's own Tradgically Hip.
