Back in Havana for the last 40 hours of my Cuban adventure. This past week has been outstanding, unfortunatly, the town where I spent most of the time only have two internet terminals and both were down. Anyways, rather than spending my time on the computer, Darek and I rented a moped one day and drove the Cayo Juntais, which is a national park AND a beach! The water was a pale aqua colour I´ve never seen before and the beach was nearly deserted! We found more conch shells than we could pick up and there were lots of hermit crabs and turtle´s eggs around too!
On another day, we hiked into the farmland for about two hours to reach the point where a mountain met the flat red land. It was here where we entered the biggest cave I´ve ever seen. We walked into the cave over jagged rocks while examining all the stalicites along the way. Then we reach an underground resevoir. The water was quite cold, I can hardly belive I went in, it was so dark and the mud was very slimey. We walked through the underground river for quite a while, looking at clay and rock formations... incredible...
The weather has been getting hotter I think. We waited four hours for a bus today to get back to Havana from Pinar del Rio. Luckily though, it started to rain really hard on the ride back and since all the windows were open, everyone got a little wet which was quite refreshing. From here on in, before I leave Cuba on Saturday morning, I plan to have some ice cream and maybe head to ´la playa´ one last time.
This whole trip has felt quite surreal, unlike anything I´ve seen or done before. Even my memories can´t hold things the way they really were. I¨m sure the pictures and the stories could never explain it just right. I need to go back home to Canada where I and can process this whole whirwind experience.
