We were only in Rome for a few hours but we sure made the most of it. We walked for about eleven hours straight until it was about 2 in the morning and our feet hurt. But it was well worth the price of a few sore toes - we went to the Spanish steps, threw a penny in the Trevi Fountain (ensuring our return to Italy), and the Vatican ... along the way experiencing a million different sights, smells, and sounds. Ornately decorated gelato, beautiful stone arcitecutre and statues, the hum of humans and all kinds of languages being spoken, bits of stories being told, the smell of water and the sounds of it in fountains, feet on cobble stone, the alluring smell roasted garlic and fire baked cheeses coming from the Italian restaurants, saxaphone in one piazza, violin being played in another corner of the city, and even quiet alleyways and lamp lights reflecting on still waters ... Rome was a perfect place to finish our holiday!
