This is a time when all the darkness that has been creeping later and later into the mornings and earlier into the afternoons, and all the icy cold wind that has started to lick at your cheeks and ears and fingertips when they're not warmly dressed culminates. All these slow signs of winter that have been encroaching suddenly hit you. The first heavy snow of the winter came today, about 6-8 cm. Shocking and scary as when you discover your first white hair. Winter is here!
