We drove a loooong waaaay today - our first day 'on the road' and we traveled over 1000km.  It took a while to say our goodbyes and get last minute details organized so the journey didn't begin until mid-morning. As we left home, our neighbours called goodbye and waved to us from their windows.  That was really a nice moment.
We have been so looking forward to the trek across Canada! And now it has begun!
It got a little treacherous near the end of the day when it got dark and the pavement turned to gravel and night creatures started darting in front of the car. We had a super close call with a MOOSE!!  The massive beast came out of the black night of nowhere but Senica swerved fast enough that about a foot of space was left between our zooming car and the charging bull - in the end we survived, though very shaken up and a million times more cautious than before. We continued down the highway to our destination at about 20km/hr, eyes peeled, examining every shadow on the side of the road but made it without further mishap. It's a wilderness out there!!
The relief of finding a place that would take pets on our third try was ultimate and we slept soundly.
The next morning, I took the dog for a thourough walk around the area. This is where a lot of my family lived and grew up. I spent some time at the Tourist Centre and the helpful agent there found an old voter's register from 1944 and I found my great grandmother and great grandfather listed in print. I was also shown a year book from 1967 that had pictures of my mom and aunt!! What a cool experience!!  I loved it!
The sun was shining and every single person that we saw smiled and said good morning.  It was a super special visit!!
