Have had a busy couple of days. Yesterday, we took all the kids from NACA Orphanage to Phnom Penh Waterpark for a fun day out. Everyone had an absolute blast, especially all us volunteers. Sadly, it was Guy and Adele's last day with us here in Phnom Penh so we made our goodbyes at the waterpark. There were lots of tears between Guy, Adele, and the kids, but im sure their paths will cross again one day soon.
And so they did! After the waterpark, we called Phanna - manager of Guesthouse #10 - and asked if we could bring all the kids back to the guesthouse for dinner. It was an awesome night! We spent the afternoon out dancing on the boat, and the kids got a canoe tour of the Lake which they really enjoyed. After dinner, the lights went down and Dex gave an amazing fire-poy show. Again, there were tears! One of the staff from the guesthouse went up to Elisa and thanked her for what we were doing for the orphans, before bursting into tears. She explained that she was an orphan and had grown up in similar circumstances to these kids, but had had none of the experiences they have enjoyed. As a result, a second staff member burst into tears, and to finish the chain reaction, Elisa was in tears.
Minutes later, Elisa saw one of the older boys from the orphanage sitting in a chair wiping tears from his eyes. When she asked what was wrong, he said that he was very happy. Elisa was in tears again! It was a great day, and the kids - not to mention Elisa, Dex, Guy, Adele and I - really enjoyed themselves! They had never been to the Lake before and I hope it was an experience they will cherish for a long time!
