On Saturday, February 3, 2008, after waiting for almost a week for the weather to improve, I drove from Prince George to Vancouver. The purpose of this 700 kilometer trip was to join up with Barbara for about two weeks in Vancouver and Victoria.
The route follows Highway 97 south to No. 1 - the Trans Canada Highway which leads to Vancouver.
Just south of Clinton, about six hours into the trip, I could not resist taking the scenic route to Vancouver - Highway 99. The change in plans was designed to spend an hour in beautiful Whistler - the world renowned ski resort.
This route along Highway 99, through the Coast Mountains, is challenging enough to drive even in good conditions. On this day, on a snow covered road, the challenge was even greater.
It is about a four hour drive from Clinton to Whistler. The last three hours - Lillooet to Whistler - are the most scenic stretch of the highway and that is where the photos were taken.
Along the route, repeated signs warning of avalanche danger only served to make the news reports of 12 persons having lost their lives to this high alpine threat even more poignant.
