Where I stayed
Ft. Hancock Motel
Long driving day. Got off just before 9 and drove until midnight - though there was one time change.
My goal all along was to get "just past El Paso." Jill was looking at the map and warning me that there was nothing just past El Paso. I told her nonsense, it's an interstate, there's always something. Well, Texas is bigger and lonlier than I had even imagined, and, well, Jill was right. Just when the bright lights of El Paso were petering out, I started looking, but I probably started looking one exit too late. So we had to drive about 40 miles more (not too bad, but for bladder issues) and then we saw this big red MOTEL sign about 10 miles away and headed for it like a beacon. Well, you can probably imagine it was no beacon. But it was clean, OK, mostly acceptable, and a good choice because we didn't encounter anything else the next morning for the next 40 miles.
