... And I didn't even have to use my AK...

Got up, and went downtown to a matinee show of the LA Philharmonic, at the Disney Concert Hall. OMG is that a gorgeous space - all metal on the outside, all wood on the inside, beautiful, and sounds great, too. What we saw was three short pieces - one by Rimsky-Korsakov, one by Tchaikovsky and one by I forget who, and then a longer piece by Tchaikovsky. The first piece and the last one, especially, were amazing.

Then we took surface streets through LA, and through Beverly Hills on to Santa Monica and then to Venice Beach. Walked the boardwalk - oh the humanity! Saw the famous basketball courts, though nothing much was going on there. Had a so-so (though entirely acceptable) lunch. Then we walked out to the beach and Jill played in the water a little. We watched some surfers as the sun was setting.

Then we drove back to the hotel and had drinks at the absurd astroturfed poolside bar. It's allegedly one of the hippest places in Los Angeles, and we just sat there playing Scrabble. We are cool.
