gosh. To say this place was 'crime ridden' would be an understatement.
Our hostel gave us a 15min introduction upon arrival, and on the map, a lot of the city was highlighted in purple to indicate 'go here if you want to have anything stolen'. Goodo.
I was thinking 'Naples - woo! Italian beaches here I come!'. lol. nup... you had to get a ferry to the beaches, and apparently they were all crap anyway. so no beaches for us... :( After the extreme heat of Venice, Paris, Lauterbrunnen and Florence, I was quite devastated...
We had planned on going to..... where was it... (had to google it, its thats long forgotten) Sorrento!!! but our hostel showed us pictures to say it was a waste of time. Similar to Capri. Not much of a beach there... Also expensive.
On our first night, we went to the place where the Calzone pizza was invented. Literally. Naples is very famous for its pizza (another reason I wanted to go there. mmmm....). Pizza was good, but nothing like ours at home. Really thin, hardly any ingredients, and basically nothing like what I was used to. Delightful all the same.
Next day consisted of sleeping in, our hostel host making alot of us spaghetti for lunch, him then treating us to delicious italian cakes, then me famously sleeping for a few more hours whilst the rest of the hostel didnt really leave for the day and instead sat on the terrace talking. There were 4 Texan girls there, and 4 Aussies (me, Lewis, and 2 brothers from Brisbane). We pretty much convinced the Texans that they were a racist bunch (even though they were lovely christian girls) and corrupted them with our Aussie swearing.
We also had more pizza and spaghetti for dinner.
^^^ Ahhhh Naples....
Next day, us and the 2 other Aussie boys, Chris and.... Jesse! (memory is failing me...) went to Pompeii. Id been looking forward to it for a good while, but after trying to deal with the Italian train system (near impossible) then arriving midday (we'd aimed for early morning) when the heat was ridiculous, we were unfortunately no longer so enthused.
It was an interesting place, and really well preserved, but when you seriously can barely think straight due to the extreme heat, no where is enjoyable. That and the boys kept taking the piss out of everything, so you couldent really get into it. We were soon looking for the exit....
Another night of pizza. And me having a bickering match with this idiotic russian/american girl who was so polictically correct you honestly wanted to punch her. Lewis showed her up a few times with his intelligent views of time travel. I was proud. The 3 Aussie boys finally got rid of her by talking about cricket. dont blame her...
by the next morning it was time to leave, and it seemed the only thing we accomplished was eating so much pizza just the sight of it made you feel sick. Honestly... I had some left over, and even Lewis couldent finish it...
Good times, but if you asked much about Naples we wouldent be able to answer you....
