In the morning, at the Caribou Inn, as I actually looked around the room, there was a sign in the bathroom stating to pull hard on the faucets and if you couldn't get hot water, to try the opposite way on the faucet as some of the plumbing was backwards - I couldn't help it, I had to take a picture!

Then I noticed that at least I would be safe in the shower, the little non-slip fish that some people put in the bottom of the tub were even on the side of the tub! I'm a terrible person, I completely acknowledge that. Anyway, LJ's only comment about the 'breakfast' part of our B&B experience was "I'm guessing you want to eat somewhere else?" I said yes and we left the Caribou... never to return... I hope.

We headed out of Anchorage, making a stop at Target (back to civilization) to pick up some snacks for the weekend. Off we went up the Glenn Highway.

Our first stop was Thunderbird Falls. I started out on the hike with LJ but to be quite honest, everything hurt, especially my calves and I decided to let his pictures show me the falls and sent him on alone. I went back to the car and rested (and typed!)

Our next stop on our journey north to Denali was Talkeetna.  This was a great little Alaskan town where many of the people preparing to climb Denali stay during their preparations.

We had some great pizza and visited several of the shops, walked out to the river and also went to the Roadhouse on our way out for milk and cookies.

I really liked the town a lot, it was small but had a ton of personalities and we even met some people from West Virginia!
It was now about 5:30 PM and we still had over 3 hours drive to get to Healy and the Dome Home Bed & Breakfast. Now we were cautiously optimistic about this B&B because we had several communications with them prior to our arrival and they had been very helpful in making recommendations for us, please they had a great website. Ironically, both this B&B and the Caribou Inn were recommended by Frommer's.

On our drive up we saw a Lynx on the side of the road drinking from a puddle. LJ (while driving) spotted it and I saw it before we passed it, we turned around but he left as we drove back up to him so no pictures. This was such a rare occurrence, we were very excited to have already seen it!  Our other siting on the way... a porcupine!

We made it to the Dome Home around 9 and quickly were relieved to see a beautiful home and yard. We met Terry and he showed us around the main living areas and also told us it was an Alaskan custom to not wear shoes in the house so he showed us where to leave our shoes. Our room was just beautiful and we were so excited.

We told him we would be up for breakfast around 7:30 AM as we had the 9 AM shuttle into Denali. We still hadn't had dinner so he gave us a few suggestions and he went off to bed. It was after 10 PM, but still completely daylight outside, weird thing to get used to! We went to two of his suggestions but both were already closed so we just went to the 24 hr deli / gas station and LJ got a sandwich, I had some applesauce. We were very tired so we came back to the house and got our things together for our trip tomorrow and went to bed - in a beautiful room, with no signs on the walls about the plumbing - all is right with the world.
