A Lizzie Note:

Hi friends. First of all, I have to say I love reading all the comments on the blog, blog pics and facebook. You guys are cracking me up. We are having a blast...Thank you for sending so much love.

Today was up and down, literally. We started out in Woodstock, Va, and headed over to Luray Caverns. It took us 30 minutes to go 10 miles due to the hairpin turns and mountainous terrain.

We arrived at the Cavern and proceeded 164 feet down into the cavern to see some amazing stalactites and stalagmites. We did arrive with a Japanese tour bus- so in addition to the caves looking like we were on a different planet, we did not hear English once down in the cave. It was all rather odd and surreal. The temp is around 54 degrees year round and was discovered in the late 1700's. It was pretty freaking awesome.  There was an organ in the bottom layer and people actually get married in the "grand ballroom" all the way down there. No thanks.

Then we headed to Skyline Drive. It really is beautiful to see - I bet it would be even better in the fall. I did have to get used to all the blind curves. I am a Louisiana flat land girl and I am not used to all that up and down, round and round. I am pretty sure Doug was a mountain race car driver in a former life.....but really, he grew up in mountain-ish land and handled it like a pro. I was the nervous nelly. We did survive and live- thanks to the DB. :)

After a few hours on Skyline Drive, I did my usual- I took a nap. When I woke up we were getting gas after he had started driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway. He got to see Mile 0 of the Blue Ridge, which was one of his goals, so all is well. We headed out to Appomottox to see where General Lee surrendered to General Grant. My mom recommended this site and it really was cool. We were able to see the rebuilt room where the surrender actually occurred.  After leaving the site where Doug says "his side won", we headed out in search of food where we broke our chain food rule again - but in our defense, there was not much else to eat.

Doug wanted to continue driving south/west on the Blue Ridge so we headed back to it. After another hour of the Blue Ridge it became dusk and we saw about 10 deer on the side of the road or crossing it. It was pretty intense as one ran out in front of the car. Do not fret, as usual DB has been trained in these extreme environments. Again, we lived...

After almost 10 hours of driving up and down, round and round, we have finally stopped in a small town in Virginia. We will be here for the night and move on again. We are Hampton Inn Gypsies.

On a side note:
Hot mamma Courtney went into the hospital tonight to be induced. I cannot wait to learn what sex the baby is. Mainly, I pray to keep everyone happy and healthy. All my love to the Hanby/Schaneville Crew. I want updates :)
