Hi out there. We have completed another fantastic day and are ready to share.
Doug and I have decided to share Blog responsibilities...we will take turns. Tonight it is my turn (I am Lizzie...)

Doug has been rather cranky without working out the past few days, so he says. I think he is great, but to fill his love tank we made a plan to get up at 7 and run a few miles. So when is rooster alarm clock began crowing at 7, we rose with the cocks. Sounds dirty, but move on.

We decided I would run 2ish miles with Doug at my pace and then I would go back to the hotel and pack/shower (because I am pretty sure I take about 4x longer to get ready..It is not that I take forever to get ready, it is just that he is so stinking fast). We ran downhill through the city and down to a park on the river. We went down and found a running trail that appeared to go under the bridge. I was unsure about running on a path, but doug said someone was ahead of us and it looked like a runner. So off we went on this little path off the beaten path until we realized the path ended and the "runner" he saw ahead of us was actually a homeless man rolling up his sleeping bag. I mutter "that is not a runner" and we hightail it out of there... Lesson to be learned- Doug get confused between homeless people and runners... We went back uphill and ran across the bridge. By that time we had already done over 1.2 miles and we headed back to the hotel...UPHILL. When we finally got there, I went upstairs as planned. Doug proceeded to run 8 more miles down by the river and a canal. He did some off road running due to some construction. He says he is now in a better mood, but I can't tell. That boy is always happy :)

After packing up the car and checking out of the hotel, we walked uphill 3 blocks to the South Carolina State Capitol. It really is a fantastic place to visit. We learned that it was awarded #2 most beautiful state house in the nation. Guess who beat it out? Harrisburg, Pa. which we happen to be going to in a few days. Doug said he remembers this capitol when he visited as a 2nd or 3rd grader, but not remembering how fantastic it is. We now have to check out the state capitol in PA.

After our historical tour, we headed back to the car and left Columbia, SC. Jackie and Pat's house was our next stop which was about 3.5 hours away. I convinced DB to get a Java Chip Frap from Starbucks so he would be wide awake for the drive and I could take a little nap, which he did and I did.

We arrived around 4 pm in Wilmington, NC to see Jackie, finally meet THE Pat and chill wi;0th Moonfart (the coolest cat in NC).  Janessa arrived and we all headed to dinner at a sweet seafood place on the water. Dinner was great, but the company was better. Good people and great friends are hard to find. These kids definitely are both. We did miss Matt though as he is in training in Arizona right now. Hugs to Matt!

One interesting topic that came up at dinner was that Jackie and Janessa were both shocked that our road trip is not planned in my typical style. This trip did not get the spreadsheet attention that other trips have received. Doug and I have been discussing this very topic. Doug has mentioned that he was happily surprised that I did not need a game plan for each hour. He says he is rubbing off on me...making me more mellow. I agree that this trip is not extremely planned out and I am very laid back on this trip, but I am not sure Doug gets all the credit. :)

After dinner we enjoyed a fantastic, amazing book called Cake Wrecks. Doug's favorite cake was the white cake with yellow and red flowers. The caption written on the cake in icing says "Go Die in a Car Fire". Pretty sure he almost peed on himself from laughing so hard. My favorite is the "Sexual Harassment" cake. Check out the pictures. Also, check out this book if you get a chance. We were going to play a game, but the book was such a hit, we just laughed a looked at it.

Now we are finally winding down. Jackie has to be up early for the radio show, Doug and Pat are having quality man time over some video game where you shoot people, and I am doing the blog. :) Life is awesome. (To see a photo of Moonfart - see picture of DB and Pat playing video games)

It is so great to catch up with old friends. I really enjoyed hanging out with them. We did discuss Courtney, Kenny and her upcoming Bean, the Gay Hanby, Matthew (Janessa's hubby), Jenni's wedding, my entire family (yeah you mom, dad, ash and al), David and Jeff Hanby, Sabrina Sambola and Dave Ramsey. What a great day.

Hugs to you all.

I'm so jealous you're there and I'm not! Give my Jackie a great big hug for me!!!

the Gay Hanby on

I am so honored to be a topic of conversation although I AM wondering what the nature of the discussion was. Really enjoying the blog, Lizzie; thanks for including me..........and SO delighted to finally see THE Pat and MOONFART!

And PS...why didn't you TELL me you were undertaking this road trip? I would have directed you to the freezer at 5205 Craig Avenue to have you take a tin of cookies along for snacks.

And PS 2......I am SO proud of you.......and very impressed at your laidback approach to this trip. Good for you, Doug Brown, for rubbing off on her. David Hanby has certainly rubbed off on ME over the years..........
